Keep colour coming,
Growing, showing, knowing.
The best is to be
Until August finally
Slips out of its calendar date,
To open the gate
To autumn’s splendour,
Another anthem to the Sender,
The Creator of colour.
Later summer colour
Is vividly spectacular,
Brighter by far
Than the gentler, quieter,
Softer shades of June.
Late summer sings
A much louder tune,
Boldly, brightly, daringly,
As vividly the colours
Grow to glow and glow further.
The lower slung sun
Impacting by direct beams,
It does now seem
To gleam on every petal,
Till it is as if
There will never be,
Cannot be an equal.
Thankfully our Creator Father,
Accomplished at making many a marvel,
Does provide a sequel.
Not too far away
From a late summer’s day,
Awaits the blaze,
Direct daze of the woodland,
Still under God’s command.
His almighty hand at work
To keep colour coming,
In three months of autumn glory,
A story so lovely to behold.
But let us not miss out
On the beauty of today,
Currently all around us
In the garden’s splendour
Of later summer colour.
Work, careful labour undertaken
Always carries a reward.
Thus the Lord God,
Our all loving, ever giving Creator Father,
Does keep the colour coming,
Blazing in every corner of August.
Surely we must offer all thanks,
And never take this for granted?
The work of God’s hand
Is truly one of beauty,
Which is wondrous and most marvellous,
August, the finale to summer.
Love keeps the colour coming
To reward the gardener,
And satisfy very admirer.
How amazingly good to us
Is this love most generous,
For beauty ever uplifts us,
Offering us days of happiness.
Lord, Creator Father, You do keep the flower colour coming in later summer through to the first frosts when it is then lost. But not before You plan further delights in store as time enters into autumnal splendour.
Thank You for all of this pleasure, enriching our life with many days of happiness. We do appreciate this, Your all loving gift. Amen.
